1,250 Miles Back Home

So after lunch we started our drive back home.  We stopped at a local SUBWAY for the usual $5 footlong and took in the Florida Suburb Sights.....

Ah.  That was enough....

We loved the billboard's phone number "866-VAS-TIME"
Makes for a catchy phrase.  Like the commercial would be a man who just got his GF pregnant for the 6th time...camera zooms in...he rolls over in bed...they both look at each other...while nodding their heads they simultaneously say, "It's Vas-Time" as a smile lights their faces.  Cut away to the Vasectomy doctor in the office...blah blah blah...

Soon thereafter, K got sleepy and rocked his signature Park Bench Style Blanket...

9 times out of 10 you will find K sleeping in the Blaze adorned with a variety of newspapers.  This meant we had to make a pit stop and get him some kind of gross energy drink or something.  We were surprised to find out that in Florida, the whole No Shirt, No Service rule doesn't apply...

We took bets on what K would walk out of there with...Monster...Red Bull.....Sparks....but he totally surprised us with a Pepsi Max for Men.

Now Pat was out $5......this meant K had to deal with one of his favorite "games."  It's called, "The Lock-The-Door-And-When-K-Takes-Out-His-Key-To-Unlock-The Door-I-Lock-It-Again-But-He-Doesn't-See-Me-Doing-It-So-He-Tries-To-Unlock-The-Door-Again-Thinking-He-Turned-The-Key-The-Wrong-Way-Until-After-3-Tries-He-Realizes-I-Keep-Locking-The-Door Game."

Back on the road and we thought of our trusty computer, Cecil, as we passed exit 350...

Now the sun's starting to set....

It's one of those picturesque landscapes.  Driving down the open road at dusk with green grass and tall trees on either side of you...the wind is flying through your hair  (or over your head)....the smell of nature filling your nostrils as you take a deep breath.....

...then some huge insect smacks into your windshield and explodes.  Time to pull over at the next gas station to clean this lifeless blood off our glass.....can barely see!

While we stopped K thought it a good idea to buy a little snack.  Namely this Pickle in a Bag thing....

...that idea turned out to be a bad one.  But couldn't ANY ONE OF US have told him that??  Seriously.  It's gross.  COME'on K.

Zac took the wheel while Pat and Cecil had a little "screening" party.  (We threw some OG Rap on in the blaze and eventually put a Dew-Rag on Cecil.)

 K's daughter, Sola, loves presents from the road so as we passed through South Carolina what better place to stop then....

South of the Border!

Anyone who's driven through South Carolina has at SOME point in their life been here.  It's the chochki MECCA of the U.S.  We've been hearing SOOOOOO much about all the parties, hot girls, spontaneous nudity, excessive drinking, and gambling that goes on at South of the Border that we decided to cut loose and get a little crazy.  It's basically an east coast Las Vegas!

...or at least it was in 1954.

Guess sunday nights at 4am isn't the best time to hang  :(

Thanks for nothing.

May 1st @ CLUB VENU

(The YABO Annex)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So we woke up in Orlando and Toebutt fixed us a morning beverage.....
He split for work and we took this pic from his fridge with hopes of embarrasing him.
But now that I think about it...he wears a MAGIC Jersey....he's incapable of embarrassment.  Thanks for having us Dave!
Now we were off to finish our drive to Fort Myers......notice the window treatment behind K ....
Now WHO could've done that......
Ah.
So the rest of the drive was pretty easy...no big deal....just some grass and weirdo animals and stuff....
We got to VENU and watched our man Ryan prepare his meal for the night...he's a SICK chef!  We had our soundcheck and then checked into the hotel.  Our friends from Ft. LAuderdale, Daryl and Cheimi, came by the room to find me on the floor, in my underwear, doing sit-ups.  Naturally, it was a short visit.  BUT we reconvened later in their hotel room with the gifts they brought us!!!  A full bottle of whiskey and some other stuff I can't remember (probably cuz of the first gift).  We woke up our friend Peggy, who also made the drive down from Boyton Beach, and she came by the room to "support" the party.  (She's preggers and can't be drinking). Jupiter One was a lucky band that night because SHE TOO brought us gifts!!  A Florida SUN-PASS for the Blaze...a limited edition AC/DC album for Pat....a Dennis Wilson button for Zac....A gift card to Chili's for K and a Disney Princess cup for his daughter Sola.....some Korean BBQ sauce for me....and a bottle of Planeside Burnett's for the whole band.  Thanks guys!
We got to the parking lot of the hotel and noticed Peggy had some new license plates....
That's a first in Jupiter One history.  We were flattered and also pretty excited they were plates to support cancer. (K's Mom is a breast cancer survivor)
So we finally got back to the club, but before I get into what we saw there...let me give you some backstory.  Our first time playing YABO in Ft. Myers last year, we met a very nice guy named Eric Riemenschneider.  He hung out with us all night and told us he was gonna be visiting NYC in February.  About 6 weeks later, Pat was walking to a bar after one of our rehearsals and literally bumps right into him.  So weird cuz it was Grassroots Tavern which none of us EVER go to, but he wanted popcorn.  Soon after, a relocation to No Malice Palace was in order...
The bartender was putting out mixed signals when asked if she wanted to be on the BLOG.  Still not sure how to read her, so I'll guess we'll just take it as a "yes" and throw the pic on....
She was pretty damn kind to Pat when the bill came around....
Naturally they hung all night and made plans to meet up with us at Elote the next day....we got to bullshit some and he showed me pics of some paintings he'd been working on.
Eric is a teacher and a talented artist.  He was real excited about a portrait he had done for 3 of his favorite students.  Now flash FORWARD to May 1st.  (sorry if this feels like a LOST eopisode)
We're walking to the club, i'm texting a new friend....
...I look up.....and hanging over the doorway, I see a GIANT oil painting of the whole band!!!!
Apparantly Mr. Riemenschneider had been busy with another one of his portraits.....
He said the jumpsuits were inspired by the Dharma Initiative...he knows Zac and I love that show....That's Eric on the right....
After the inital shock of this painting (2 hours later), we finally sat down to eat some of Ryan's "fresh to death" food..
I desperately tried to make K slow down, but he just wouldn't listen!!!!  (I just hate being the guy stuck rubbing his belly before a show.  He eats too much and gets a tummy-ache)
Our friend Libby had made these Jupiter One-zies for Preggy Peggy and we thought they were hilarious...check these out....
Here's a close-up of the designs.....K as a baby cracks me up!!!!
We eventually played a show and the owner was so drunk he jumped on stage with us during A-HA's "Take On Me."   I'm sure he thought he knew the words at one point, but ...wow.  We even had Ryan Kida come up and sing Men At Work's "Down Under" with us.....it was a fun night and we went back to the hotel for some swimming afterwards.  In the morning we said goodbye to our friends and then had lunch with Ryan and Ed.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made this night worth the 2,500 mile drive!
HEADED DOWN SOUTH!!!!!
We got a 911 call from our man Ryan down at YABO in Ft. Myers, FL.  Says they need some Jupiter One in their life....naturally we shimmied down the fireman's pole and hopped in the Blaze.
We got 2 days and 1,300 miles to drive so we decided to make a stop at Ice Man and Margo's along the way.  I can't remember AT ALL what we did when we got there other than looking at their wedding photos (which had plenty of us in them.)  As "Glen" always said,  "Hearing about people's dreams are like looking at photos.   If you're not IN any of them...then you're just not interested."  Needless to say, Margo probably cooked something and Ice Man probably had us cracking up about something....either way.  A good time.  Obvi.
So we woke up the next morning and started our long ass haul from Richmond, VA to Orlando, FL.  Gonna meet up with our friend Dave Toback (a.k.a. Toebutt), and drive the rest of the way to Ft. Myers in the morning.
With Pat at the wheel......
Zac reading his book....
K working on his "Anna" Re-mix...
..and Me taking a picture of myself; we were ready to plow through miles of highway to reach the Florida Sun.
UNTIL, for no apparent reason 2 cop cars decided to pace the entire freeway at 20 miles an hour.
Wtf?
We never did find out the reason for all this, but we drove that way for a loooooooong time.  NOW we might show up to Toebutt's super late...which means we won't get to make fun of him in his MAGIC jersey.  Once the cops FINALLY left,  the SilverBlaze opened up and never looked back....
Our only other obstacle from this point on was trying to distract K from yelling "PULL OVER!" everytime we passed one of these....
Despite the several pee stops  (for K)....
...we eventually made it.  And yes...Toebutt was sitting on his couch, donning his MAGIC jersey.  We had some drinks, Pat met some friends at a bar around the corner, and then we all slept.  zzzzzz
SUNY Institute of Technology
Utica, NY
~~~~~~~~~~~

So we're trying to catch up a bit....sorry we're so behind!  This show happened on April 25th and the best part was watching this student doing sound....i wish we had audio cuz all you'd hear is a series of exclamatory sh*ts and f*cks as he desperately searched for cables, mics, stands, whatever.....this kid was WAY too young to be this stressed out....

The second best part was this Gladiator Tournament going on in front of us.  The big guy on the left would just stand there taking hit after hit...he owned everyone for at least 2 1/2 hours.  No one could beat him....it was like watching a giant pelted with Q-Tips....
Finally the beast got tuckered out and knocked off.  That's when these girls hopped on....

K watched them battle for awhile and got real excited.  He just kept staring like a panting dog desperate for someone to throw a stick.....he wanted to play!

We laughed at all the other kids around campus trying to figure out who this stranger was; gleaming at the sidelines.  Eventually K just had to ask, "Hey, can I fight you?" At which point she politely said, "No, that's okay.  I'll just let you play...."

 Apparently, teenage college girls aren't into "playing Gladiator" with strange men....probably cuz that's Creeeeeepayyyyyyyyyy!

After many hours of K goading me, I finally submitted to a duel.  This was a very heated and passionate fight....

Round 1 was taken by Mr. Ishibashi......much to my chagrin.

It was a big upset, but I got back on the proverbial horse and focused my chi.

Knock me down once......shame on you.

Knock me down twice??.....shame on ME.

One fake right, then a follow through left.....

...and BAM!!!  Sent K into next week....Rounds 3 through 14 ended up pretty much the same way.  But he was a worthy opponent...very cunning and honorable.

Unglued remix?

Not really sure if this counts as a remix, but it sure as hell counts as funny.

More pics from London

The jet lag would basically keep me up untill 6 in the morning, at which point I'd roll down to the restaurant for my complimentary English Breakfast. Scones, pudding, tea, etc. Then I'd sleep to the pounding sound of Lady Gaga on the "tele".

It was really great to see a familiar type of food (£1.99 foot longs?), but I opted to spend my entire per diem on one meal. Aubergine peas in Thai curry? Outrageous yet simply devine!!

The dude within me forced myself to take this photo of this Ferrari. Below is Picadilly Circus. These film cameras make all my pictures look like my parents' old honeymoon photos when they went to Tunisia.

Jupiter One debut album for £13 ($20 ouch!).

They made this huge "K" for me. Actually it's K for Kasabian. They were nice "blokes". The Golden Silvers, Baba Maal, and The Pretenders were also on. There was a huge afterparty afterwards, but Regina's manager strongly encouraged us to bring the party to the hotel.  We definitely b-b-b-brought it.

Here's the gang on our way home (with a potential triple Festo). Yoed, Dan, and Beth, see you next time. We'll be playing with Regina Spektor at The Beacon Theatre and on Letterman next month so stay tuned!

OK GO @ The Living Arts Center

March 6th
~~~~~~~~~~~
So i totally forgot to mention that after our Philadelphia University show we heard our friends OK GO were playing at the TLA. The venue was close to the University so we called Dan (the drummer) and told him we'd be stopping by after our show. They rocked it and we had fun catching up with him....Such a great guy and super talented. We're really looking forward to their new record.
K, ---------------------------------------Dave,--------------------------- Dan Konopka (drums)
Dan sequenced the tracks for our new upcoming album, "Sunshower." (comes out August 25th, 2009)
Apparently we can't escape the BOGO...follows us everywhere :)
K plays with Regina Spektor on the "tele"
K went to London this week to play violin with Regina Spektor on the BBC2 show "Later With Jools Holland". check it out!
Columbus, OH
Cafe Bourbon Street
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Beau and K came home from the Frothy Monkey to find Pat and I doing some Denise Austin Pilates....(she's got big creepy eyes and she doesn't sweat)

Beau was showing off one of his new musical toys while K learned some recording tricks.....

Thanks for letting us use your house Beau! Sorry we re-arranged all the furniture.....We had to hit the road fast cuz our next stop was....DINOSAUR WORLD!

Not really. Though I wish it was...we would've had some AMAZING/freakishly-sad pics to show you. The reason we had to hit the road for real, was that Raina had dinner waiting for us in Columbus, OH. A meal is something we take seriously. Especially when it's a BUCKEYE pizza and homemade salad....

We dined on the porch like true Ohio gentlemen.....

As their nieghbor, Stan, tried seducing young boys with cold beer.

But not just ANY beer...we're talking top of the line stuff here....

We were each allowed ONE slice of pizza....no more.

Raina had claimed MOST of the pie for herself...can you believe that shit??

Eventually we left the home of Raina and Channing (thanks for dinner girls!) and drove to Cafe Bourbon St.

We found our friends Libby and Jackie waiting there ...just staring at the "Extreme Wieners."

When Raina came to the club she found me in the van freaking out to the Fly GOlden Eagle record....

Here's some footage of the drive down (w/a cameo by my tiny little cousins in Philly).....

We also saw this store and thought of "Cousin Dennis"...

The coolest thing about CBS are its walls....

Monolithic CLoud Parade opened the night and then we got on stage....

I spotted a very special someone in the audience and had to get on the mic to ask that Mick Fleetwood come to the stage...he's a hero of mine!

He hung out to make sure Zac tuned his guitar.....which we appreciated.

The only thing strange about this, was that it's the 1980 version of Mick Fleetwood.

Seriously though....check that out!

After our set The Wet Darlings came on and dedicated "Reckoner" to us....thanks!

Nashville, TN

12th & Porter
~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up started the drive to Nashville, TN
The students at the show were great and we mean no disrespect, but it's hard to drive around the deep south when the backs of trucks are constantly scolding you...
At least we had plenty of good reading to divert our attention...
I will say charming houses like this one make the drive more bearable...this is where Zac will eventually move someday
We knew we arrived to Nashville when we saw the massive guitar icons all over the place....like this one for example
We got to the club for soundcheck and then headed to a liquor store to pick up 2 new members of the Burnett's family:
1. Pomegranate (a.k.a. Brandi)
It's filled with anti-oxidants...a healthy liquor! Pom Poms made us think of a cheerleader...Brandi...OBViously with an "i"....duh.
2. Mango (a.k.a. Mango ManGonaughey)
NOw this one has to be my favorite to drink ONLY because i crack up everytime someone says, "Hey man...can you pass ManGonaughey?" In fact, I'm laughing even now as I type this. Mathew McConaughey is so hilarious to us. He's got this slow Open Mouth to Grin technique that he uses in every movie. We've perfected it. The whole "I love taking my shirt off" thing is an obvious choice...but what really gets us...what REALLY makes us sit down and just think for a long time on this guy....is his clothing line. "JK Livin'" The "J" stands for "Just" and the "K" for "Keep." It's sort of his "mantra" and philospohy..."Just Keep Livin'." So if you were ever to ask Matt something to the affect of, "Hey Matt. How are you doing? It seems like times are pretty rough right now and i'm concerned about losing my job." He would reply, "JK Livin' Man."
Which, as Zac pointed out, really doesn't mean ANYthing. Of COURSE we'll keep Livin'. Do we have a choice?! I'm sorry Mr. McConaughey, but you telling us to "just Keep Livin'" isn't exactly helping us here. Can you give me SOMEthing else to chew on? ANYthing else...For a true laugh you must visit his website. I dare you not to laugh as you utter the words, "Is this for real??" Make sure you have the volume up so you can hear the Dub Reggae as he urges you to "Enter EASY..." or "Enter REAL EASY..."
http://www.matthewmcconaughey.com/
It's a shame that we all hung out in the van getting so well acquainted with Brandi and Mango ManGonaughey, because we just forgot about Lois and left her all alone in Swan Station.
Can't believe we didn't get pics because this bar was filled wth the most beautiful people in Nashville and the bands were fresh to death! Sometimes you gotta just put the camera down and live in the present.
Please check them out when you can....
We had a great time..caught up with our friend Diana...and went back to Beau's house for some sleep
Wise, VA
University of VA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Back on the road and into the country.....we had to leave at about 3am for this show, so Zac took the first night shift while we all slept. By daybreak, K had gotten out of the van and said, "I'm feeling pretty good....I can drive!"

Finally Zac could get some rest.....

Now for those who don't know, K can usually last a good 20-30 minutes before he starts falling asleep at the wheel. On a good night he can go up to one full hour!

This was not one of those days.....after 20 minutes he called me in the Panda tank to ask if I could drive.

Naturally I had to decline, cuz I was busy writing this BLOG...

Pat hopped in the captain's chair...no doubt to drive us the rest of the way there...he's an animal.

He's also the only guy who can lose Megatron whenever he's on our tail....happens more than you think.

I'm always amazed how quickly we can go from looking out the window and seeing this:

...to this:

Cabs to Cows....

We all needed to take in some sights and contribute to nature....

DON'T JUDGE!

This college is straight, legit country....

The most "urban" setting we could find was this factory in the middle of a valley....

probably a "Stick Factory." Must be where all the locals were getting the sticks they'd wave at us from their drive ways. Seriously....we kept seeing all these kids and old people waving long sticks at us as we drove through the hills...totally weird.

We got to the University, made sure Gordon was comfortable, and then received escorts to the school cafeteria.

Up to this point, we've all been eating peanuts and water so we took advantage of the room full of food. We all over ate and it got pretty ugly when K was given $1.50 to eat a Pear with Mayonnaise wrapped in Lettuce.

These students obviously didn't know K is a fearless eater....

I ran laps around this clock to see how many it took for me to puke.....

I even tried working off the food before we played....no luck. Still felt gross....ACTUAL food can be a shock to your system.

The sun was setting which meant it was time to play...

No pics from the show, but we had fun and just took it back to the hotel that night....

Home for a couple days

Pat needs a haircut!

Our friends Erica, Ricky, and Rawan all live together in a house (Bushwick Gardens). Rawan usually cuts Zac's hair so she just added Pat to her list of "clients."

When it was all over....Pat nearly cried....

But here he is...no less handsome than before....(just looks more like his sister from behind now)

Pat also helped his photographer friend Bob Scott for a couple days make some promo books for Converse. Apparently this was a LOT of work and Pat had no clue what he was supposed to be doing there. But still....he put in 15 hours a day at this Delware Sweat Shop and the books came out looking great (picture a Converse Shoe that's an actual book you can open).

The SilverBlaze™ likes to help out friends whenver she can. Sometimes Pat will use her to drive Bob Scott around with his models and crew. Here she is posing at the Converse photo shoot...hard to tell which one's the model in this shot, eh?

Not sure if you've checked out the new 2010 VW Passats, but they have a lot of new features.....Heated/Cooled Seats (standard)....Power Windows (standard).....Moonroof/Sunroof (standard)......Fully Stocked Picnic Trunk (standard)....

Also, if you lease NOW you get $100 Cash Back plus this cow....

Zac lives with our friends THE HOT LEFT and they were doing a show at Fat Baby. They asked Zac to play drums so we all got a chance to go hear him beat the shit out of 'em. The only problem was Chris, the bass player, had just been arrested outside the club and taken to the station. Dave, the singer, had no clue where he disappeared to and held the show as long as he could. Eventually Pat just got on stage to play bass and I played maraca. I also got to sing that back up part on The Pixies' "Where is my Mind." We had a hilarious time and Chris had actually gotten back to the club in time to finish out the last few songs....

(That's our friend Michael Borne lounging on the amp....he was also in the Big House with Chris)

EASTER BRUNCH in Pittsburgh!

The Peterson's House (Scotts Roger)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So we somehow managed to meet the greatest group of people (of all time) in Pittsburgh, PA last year. We played BRilloBox with Donora and Nick Weston and met all these super heros. They get together with a bunch of local bands and have a huge brunch. HIlarity always ensues and we couldn't be happier spending our Easter Sunday with these guys...
This is Scott Peterson..he's making his special home potatoes and eggs...
This is his wife Sarah with their baby Wyatt...
One of my favorite things about the Peterson brunch is drinking mimosas out of the BOBA FETT mug....
Pat ate 3 boxes of CHEEZITS and now he's gotta drive 7 hours home....
Jake (Donora)
Benji of Rostrum Records with the best sweater i've seen in a long time...
Cindy showed Zac how a zoom lens can pick up even the SMALLEST items.....like that rolled up 20 Dollar Bill iin the bottom of Ange's purse for example....
...shortly afterwards... Zac's hand was pretty damn close to that purse and Ange was missing twenty bucks...but look at that face!...HAD to be coincidence...
We noticed the Mariage Blanc guys were looking a bit bored,....
So we struck up a game of SPIN THE BABY!!!
This is one of our favorite games....You spin the baby and whoever his head winds up pointing to, gets a kiss. (w/ tongue)
Our first winner!!
Unfortunately we only got to play one round. The baby puked.
At least we got plenty of REESE's!
But only ONE peep left...Pat was concerned....
I had given up cookies for lent, but Angie (the angel) had brought me my first cookie in 40 days!
We mised you Kathryn, but thanks for the house....and naturally a big thanks to all our Pittsburgh friends for a great weekend!
Until next time...
Pittsburgh, PA
Hard Rock Cafe
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

7 hours later...it's now daylight. After driving through some mountain tunnels, we finally see those beautiful yellow steel bridges that connect one of our favorite cities...PITTSBURGH!

Our friend Kathryn Heidemann was kind enough to loan us her house while she visit friends in VA. We were sad she and her turkey bacon wouldn't be there to hang out with us, but super excited to stay in a nice big house! When we rolled up to her place it was very early in the morning and we were all tired. K noticed some people standing on their doorsteps in bathrobes and the sound of one woman singing quite loudly. He thought this was odd given the time of day and when he saw a grey cloud swing so low to the street he made up his mind that this town was weird. Kathryn lives in a strange neighborhood.

It wasn't until he came back outside for a pillow that he realized what was ACTUALLY going on. That wasn't a "cloud" it was a billow of black smoke and the person "singing" was actually yelling for help. A house on the corner was on fire!!!

Still...we were too tired so we all stayed in bed....K was out there taking pics. By the time we woke up the house looked like this:

Pat and K had taken a drive to see the house Pat's Grandma lived in, (which was much better off than that other poor house)....

Grammy Felicia lived there till Pat was 10 years old and he had fond memories of feeding her birds and running around the backyard peeing on stuff. Now, if you look to your left, you'll see his Aunt Sal and Unc's house.....another childhood haunt of Pat's.

Activities in THIS particular house included, but were not limited to, stealing candy out of the candy jar and fetching his Dad beers from the fridge at age 3. Dino proudly takes the credit for Pat's first learned "skills" in eye-hand coordination and hospitality.

Meanwhile back at the Heidemann Ranch, Zac and I were writing a new song and waiting for the guys so we could start running around Frick Park. This place has a million different trails and lots of hills. We managed to find our way back without having to eat each other so overall, a good run. We ate Kathryn's peanut butter, took showers, and went to the club. Parking around Harvard Station was tricky and we didn't like the tone of this particular sign...

Who do these signs think they are???! The Blaze is from NYC and doesn't take shit from ANYone...let alone this bossy piece of metal. You know what??

BOOOOSH!

Since we're not sure how ballsy the local Police are (they might not know who they're dealing with), Zac kept an eye on her...

After meeting up with DOnora and Maraige Blanc we got set up and headed to the liqour store to meet yet ANOTHER new member of the Burnett's Family:

PEACH (a.k.a. "Elizabeth Reed")****

**** We decided upon this name through the following schemas:
Peach-> eat a peach -> Duane Allman-> Allman Brothers Band -> "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" -> Elizabeth Reed

At the show we had our friends Ange, Cindy, Dani, Keli, Ashley, and Scott....but the guest of honor was Scott and Sarah's baby Wyatt!

He loved the show, but slept right through the 2nd half...how does that happen???

Our friends DONORA came up next and sounded A-MAZE-ING. Love that band:

After the show we all went back to Kathryn's and threw the SICKEST house party Pittsburgh's ever seen.......you could barely walk through the house without rubbing elbows with some hilariously drunk, under-aged college kid.
(just kidding Kathryn)
We were so tired and amped for brunch the next day that we just went back home to sleep....kinda like Christmas Eve....the sooner you go to bed the sooner Santa Clause comes. But in this case, the sooner JC resurrects...

Louisvile, KY

The Space on 6th & Oak
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up in the most perfect sleeping situation. A whole attic designed for a band....there was a bed and plenty of floor space for us to do whatever while the upper echelon go about their business throughout the main section of the house. When it was time to get up we all went to the living room to say good morning to our gracious hosts. Jen had gotten up for work at 7am but was home by the time we came down. Proud of that girl....must've been rough :(
We basically hung about watching youtube clips on "bullshit storms" and drank coffee.
Nothing out of the ordinary...UNTIL....we walked into jen's bedroom, through the walk-in closet, and discovered an alcove dedicated to her own personal army of Transformers?!?!?!
For those of you who don't know; TRANSFORMERS are one of the few things in this tangible world that give K great joy. So we weren't surprised to find him in the closet 2 hours later....
We needed to get on the road for Louisville so we sadly left our new friends. Thanks Jenn, Kate, and Stef!
Nice day for a drive in Ohio...
Not so much in Kentucky....
We kept our local superhero "FESTO" busy with some bio-degradable trash ammunition....always searching for strips of land to discard Blaze banana peels (doesn't count as litter if it lands on soil)....
We also came across some mysterious outer space machines....
K got a call from the Striped Sweater Coalition (SSC) thanking him for his unfailing support and noble effort in bringing stripes to the forefront of high fashion sense across the country. Should he succeed in boosting Striped Sweater Sales in middle America he'll receive a free subscription to "Women's Health" magazine...he's excited!!! Hell, we ALL are.
We made a stop off Bardstown Ave to get Coffee and Glow-In-The-Dark Unicorn stickers. The coffee was rad....
...and the stickers were magical. They live on my floor tom at the moment...
Right beside our table was a bucket full of toys! K's lucky day!!!
In the adjoining bookstore Pat found a handheld version of the Constitution which he promptly bought for the freedom loving Jeff Taylor. Zac, who knows my favorite author, very kindly bought me the latest collection of Kurt Vonnegut's works. And K bought his wife a birthday card. I'm the only Dbag who bought nothing for anyone :(
It was about load-in time so we followed the Moonshine Truck™ to see about getting some for the show...
Once we were at The Space we got to meet Jeb and his lady friend Bess Such a rad couple! They live in the house attached to the art space and they're super smart/talented. Bess had just finished watching the documentary "Flow" and she suggests we all do the same. Make a note of it. We had a real good time hanging out with them (in between hanging out with "Melly-Mel" in the Blaze).
We also just got the new EP by Phoenix called "Wolfgnag Amadeus Phoenix" so although it was dark and gloomy outside we kept things alive blasting "1901" a million times. THANKS ELYSE!
The show was fun and our friend Kevin Magner REALLY hooked it up with a fresh bottle of whiskey JUST for us! ( *ahem* or apparently just for Zac as the night progressed) Afterwards we said our goodbyes and headed straight for Pittsburgh...it was gonna be a long night...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We woke up this morning excited to get through the KY border. As you know we are huge Burnett's vodka fans and it's distributed out of Bardstown, KY. Let's take a tour of the distillery! We can't wait. We just know that the Burnett's people would be THRILLED to have Jupiter One in their factory. We'll get to see some sights, maybe sign a few autographs, be inducted into the Burnett's Flavored Vodka Hall of Fame.....who knows?!

And we never will. Cuz no one called Pat back :(

Oh well...maybe they didn't get the message...we'll try next time. We had a long drive to Newport so we got acquainted with two new members of the Burnett's family.

1. Coconut

As per J-1 tradition we give them our own endearing names. This flavor is known as "CoCo Beware" in honor of the famed wrestler below....

KOKOBWARE

our second newest member of the family is...

2. Sweet Tea (simply known as "Sweetie")

I hate to offend Sweetie, but she tasted God awful....we doubt she'll be spending anymore time with us in the Blaze.

We also brought back one of our old friends Watermelon!

We named her "Melly-Mel" as a tribute to our Florida friend, Helen. She also goes by "HelensMellons" and we miss her!

Something that came to our attention on this drive was the amount of churches we'd see. On any given street you could find at least 8-10 churches of your choice. For some stretches of road residential housing was converted to churches too....

They were as frequent as a bodega in Brooklyn...speaking of which, we drove through WILLIAMSBURGH and felt nostalgic...

Until we realized just how different WILLIAMSBURGH, Kentucky was from its Brooklyn namesake....

After driving over some cool bridges we wound up in Newport and searched for a coffee shop. We stumbled upon this great place called YORK ST. CAFE and made it our home for the next couple hours.

Diane seemed to be totally fine with a random band reading trivial pursuit cards and eating pie all day....

5 hours later we decided to leave our new friends and get over to the club...

Pat had to make some calls and I had some bridges to run over....

Zac was having drinks with the locals and K was at a Pre-Natal Workshop in the yoga center around the corner...(he heard they were serving free snacks). Here's some shots of the show...thanks Libby!

Keith Urban on Bass!

The rest of the night was really funny and I'm so pissed we left Lois, our camera, in the Blaze. There are 3 floors to this haunted house venue (the tommy gun was made here)...

...and in the bottom bar we heard the music of a local country/rock/blues band playing ALL SORTS of shit. By the time our set ended, it was late and everyone was trashed. I sat in to play a Johnny Cash tune...K grabbed his fiddle and played some bluegrass, then I asked Andy King if we could play some music by THE BAND. Pat heard the words "Don't Do It" and quickly stepped up to play bass. We had a great time stumbling our way through all these tunes and Jupiter One's rhythm section had hijacked Andy King's "Kentucky Cash Crop."

Andy is one of those guys who plays every instrument and knows most every song. He didn't mind us playing with him all night until Pat and I started plowing through Led Zeppelin's "Rock n Roll." He then got on the mic and said, "What the hell can we play after THAT song?!" Andy and his boys were the shit. We played a lot of southern rock through the morning hours and finally packed up our stuff. We were sleeping at a friend's house and they waited up to make us pizza. The best news we'd gotten all month!

Over and out from the Blaze...

Montgomery, WV

WV Tech
~~~~~~~~~~~
Out of the bustling NY streets and into the countryside once again....
We stopped at a service area when we heard the sounds of a taunting, laughter...it was un-human..half-robotic and half-otherworldly. Whatever it was it was getting closer and we were frightened. We looked behind us and saw nothing....
Suddenly we loked forward and saw a Transformer headed right for us! My God!
Some locals were running towards it to aid us in our escape. As we raced away, we noticed it wasn't a Transformer at all. It was just a truck.
Those people were getting inside it.
anywho.
K has been practicing his drawing lately as exemplified by this portrait of the Silverblaze in Montana...
..and this portrait of me using Cecil. I've been given the name "Screen-O" for my propensity to cell phone, computer, and iPod screens.
I believe this whole thing was inspired by a portrait of K drawn by a fan in Atlanta....
We started driving through some heavily wooded areas with creeks and nature-type stuff...
eventually we passsed by this super weird "Believe It Or Not" type freak show place....
After a few more miles of this we stumbled upon a small town. civilization!
Houses built on hills....
....local symbols anticipating the arrival of Easter...
...and cars with never-before-seen colors.
Besides the "FRED'S DEER URINE FARM" we saw, which had a lone Deer, chained by the ankle, and awaiting its next bladder purge for the sake of Hunters, we had a pretty uneventful, yet scenic, drive.
The kids at WV Tech were enthusiatic and displayed some interesting dance moves...ones we shan't soon forget.
Driving back through the forest that night was interesting as we tried to find the hotel...not really sure what this is a pic of, but it's blurry and kind of cool.
Jon Bon Jovi! (kinda)
Pat's friend Matt Saldivar is an actor in that Broadway show "The Toxic Avenger" so he got tickets to the opening night party. He brought Zimmer...some of you may remember him from Blog's passed....and here they are enjoying a fancy NY evening.
The best part was getting to meet Jon Bon Jovi at this afterparty. His keyboardist, Tico Torres, is a musician and composer on The Toxic Avenger. They were able to snap a photo with the Jersey juju....
When it came time to grab a shot with Bon Jovi, or "J-Bon" as Pat affectionately calls him, they were interrupted by Susan Boyle who insisted J-Bon do some car bombs with her....
damnit.
The next morning we all met in Brooklyn for a photo shoot with Anna White. We had some food at Ella's then walked around a bit. it was pretty fucking cold for an April day so we all wanted to quit super early but our friends from the label forced us on. Thom, the production manager at Ryko, handed Pat an empty Banana Peel. He told Pat that if he would just stop bitching about the weather like a little girl, the next one MIGHT have something inside it.
Then he stormed off muttering insults under his breath with a devilish grin while Pat searched for a Medi-Fast Bar or at LEAST something to say in his defense.
Clearly unable to protect himself or think clearly with his meager E-BAY trappings; I decided to step in.
NO body puts Panda in a corner! (or gives him a barren banana) Through a series of "dirty looks" and "NOT jokes" i was able to avenge Pat's disgrace. Thom looked to RYKO's designer, Jaime, for help, but she was too busy trying to get K out of his favorite striped sweater. After a long, cold, day for everyone involved we decided to put something warm in our bellys at The Levee on N3rd.
FREE CHEESE BALLS!!!!
Pat, Zac, and K got the special $4 PBR w/ shot of whiskey. (Those who know me know that i don't drink beer or whiskey. I stick to vodka) So I opted for something a little edgier...the Creamsicle. It's got vanilla vodka and orange soda. The bartender bet me a shot of choice that i couldn't eat JUST ONE cheese ball throughout the whole day. I won. By 4pm i was feeling good enough to show off my new underwear....
...by 4:05pm we were asked to leave.
We'll post some pics from the photo shoot when we get 'em!
Who ever said Jupiter One wasn't athletic???!
The MLB network started airing "Countdown" last week, so if you suddenly get the craving for over-priced beer and hot dogs while listening to our song...that's why.
If you’re a Time Warner Cable subscriber, you can access the channel on 174 for all NYC boroughs and New Jersey.
Cable Vision subscribers can get the MLB Network on channel 149.
(P.S. If yer a girl, i'm sure this blog posting is worthless. We apologize.)
love,
D
