Lexington, KY

The Dame
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the morning we found poor Libby cuddled up in blankets on the other couch. It's her house and she's got the sofa?? sorry Libby...we appreciate your hospitality :)
We're hungry and there's only ONE place we can go to fill that void. It's been Jupiter One's "place for breakfast" in WV and we always look forward to it. They serve biscuits with all sorts of greasy bad-for-you stuff on them.
TUDOR'S Biscuit World!!!
We usually stick to "The Mountaineer" and "The Golden Eagle."
The Mountaineer's a biscuit with country ham, potato, egg & cheese.
The Golden Eagle is for those who wanna substitute some of that country for a taste of our friendly northen neighbor. It's a biscuit with Canadian Bacon, potato, egg, and cheese.
We spotted a fellow patron with an exceptional style of facial hair. The all too often neglected "Neck Beard." Which I suppose falls into a category beyond "facial" and puts one foot in the "body" hair door....perhaps that's what makes the "Neck Beard" so parlous. At any rate we knew we HAD to capture it....but how? Who dare approach the savage Neck Bearded Man with a camera pointed in his direction?
K. That's who.
(just kidding. of course not)
I took the camera, and from the other side of a partition, did my best to snap a surreptitious photo. I was EXTREMELY intimidated and nervous to be caught by the furry scrag; so I regret the photo was a bit blurry. Requires some scrutiny....
After a wave goodbye to the Biscuit World we rolled into the Blaze with our sites on Lexington, KY. Georgine, our GPS, put us safely in with a lot of time to kill. We strolled in the park around the corner and took some pictures with the bronze extolments celebrating the Thoroughbreds...
We couldn't help but notice a foul scent in the air. Zac checked the horse's ass for the off-putting scent....
nothing.
I checked the Jockey.....
bingo!
It appeared to us that this poor jockey must be doomed to still life with shitty-pants. Much like some Greek Mythological martyr.....Doomed to an eternity of riding a horse with shit in his pants. Unable to sit down ....what torture! He must've been some demigod who cheated a race or something.
Pat felt pretty bad for the guy and offered "Jockeylysses" an opportunity to call Mt. Olympus for clemency.
Slightly downtrodden and sad that Jockeylysses refused Pat's help....
... he decided to take it upon himself to send this other guy here on a mission to bring word of the cursed man's plight. With a grand gesture Pat bid the man off on an errand fit for Hermes....
..but again. nothing.
Pat even tried calling the sacred mountain himself....
....but couldn't figure out the area code to Thessaly.
Booooring. Oh well. sorry Statue-with-Shit-in-Your-Pants-Doomed-to-Suffer-Life-Eternal....we're gonna go frolick with all the other living things frozen in time!
What do you guys wanna do now?? Hey, isn't that K over there resting peacefully on the grass...basking in the sunlight?
After that got boring too, we walked to the club and loaded in. The soundguy forgot his iPod so I got to "DJ" all night! So much fun especially since Pat didn;t know and said "Dave! They're playing all your favorite songs tonight!"
Oblio from Nashville put on an amazing show and we had a great time playing for all the Chico Fellini fans that night...Special thanks to Brent and Cara Burpee for the Vietnamese xylophone! THey drove from St. Louis and we always look forward to seeing them. Pat and I got into a little scuffle which left my right thumb incapacitated.... Luckily this happened AFTER we played....but still. Way to go PAT! >:(
We had a lot of fun at The Dame and we look forward to coming back....thanks Lexington!
Charleston, WV
(catching up)
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Okay. soooooo...we woke up from Raina's house and headed to North Star for breakfast. BUDDHA BOWL!

We looked through magazines, had some "PURE" GInger Ale (made on site), and then got in the Blaze. It wasn't too long of a ride to Charleston so we stopped at a mall for Zac. He needed some new unmentionables

We parked at an empty lot that read "TOW AWAY LOT." But come on.....really? NO one's gonna bust us around here. IT's West VIrginia...we can leave the van for 2 seconds, right?

wrong.

We literally left her for 1 minute and when we came out she was hooked up to the back of this guy's truck...ready to be hauled out of there. Luckily we stopped him in time and gave him $60 to let her go.

Here he is leaving with J-1's Lunch Money :(

We forgot to take pictures taht night, but we had a good time hanging with our old friend Roadblock at The Sound Factory. We also had the pleasure of hearing an older drunk woman hit up Pat with the greatest line of all time.

Lady: "Hi. Can i take a picture with you?"
Pat: "sure."
Lady: "You kinda look like a hot Keith Urban."
Pat: " Thanks(?)"
Lady: "Can I take a picture of just you alone?"
Pat: "i don't think so."
Lady: "Oh. My name is Raina. I mean it's really D'loralai. Raina's my Wicca name. But I ain't Wicca no more."
Pat: "Ah. I'm just gonna go stand over here now..."

About 10 minutes later a diferent drunk lady (yet seemingly of the same village) approacehd me while i was packing up my drums. She just started muttering some incoherent syllables and pitches softly into my ear. When i frightfully turned to look at her she just started tickling me. yeah. Tickling me. WTF!?!

We all followed our friend Jackson back to our favorite WV haunt, The Empty Glass, and had some drinks. Our other friend Libby let us stay in her apartment while she worked at the domestic violence shelter all night. Pat and I in the bed...Zac on the floor...K on the couch. Just like old times....thanks Libby!

Jupiter One's Soundcheck at Mercury Lounge: Friday, March 27th, 2009

The following is an entry from our "Guest Blogger," Jeff Taylor
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Myself being a lucky person, I got to hang out and watch Jupiter One's soundcheck at Mercury Lounge today. Panda played bass in my band last night when we performed at the Mercury, so this is his second straight night rocking for lots of cool folks at 217 East Houston Street.
Zac's side project for the afternoon was that of putting together some rad new paper lanterns for the band's stage setup. Does not he cut a dashing figure, outstretched arm and glowing orb in tow?
I took some close-ups of the guys' pedals & guitars, for all you CreepyGearFiends™ , HellMen™, and superfans.
The band treated us (a few members of another act on the night's bill and me) to spirited versions of some material from the forthcoming LP. The lighting technician got his bearings while J1 melted ghost faces with their new tunes.
After soundcheck, Panda and I walked around the Lower East Side, in search of a new pick guard for his Jazz Bass. When one shop didn't have it, we evacuated everyone within 5-block radius made some calls; I had a remotely-operated jumbo jet take them out.
When a second music gear shop failed to accommodate our needs, well, we didn't waste our limitless resources on idleness.
Here's to a great show tonight - I'll be front and center. I leave you with a picture taken from K's position at center stage.
Yours,
Jeff Taylor
SilverBlaze turns 150,000 Miles Old
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We woke up in Raina's sorority house and got breakfast at North Star....Buddha Bowl! We hung out there a lot longer than we should have looking through magazines and people watching. When we got back on the road we all got very excited anticipating the mileage marker that would make our dear sweet SilverBlaze 150,000 Miles Old!!

She was in Zac's hands going down a smooth Ohio road when the momentous occasion finally arrived...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

We knew we had to celebrate so it was a special visit to the gas station today.....

SILVER Gasoline

Pat even spoiled her with some STP Fuel Injection....and why not? She deserves it!

Columbus, OH

The Treehouse
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today was an exciting one for two reasons. No. 1-- We're getting in the Blaze for the next 9 hours and driving to The Treehouse in Columbus, OH.
and No. 2 -- We found enough money in "Petty Cash" or as we call it "(Tom) Petty Cash" to buy jug handles of vodka/whiskey for the next 3 days. Yay!
Pat showed up at my house at 9am followed by a very hung-over Zac. We piled in the van and after 5 pee stops (for K) we had finally left the NJ/PA Turnpikes behind us and got out into some country...ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Panda's got his coffee in one hand and his favortie girl in the other....life is good.
Until he remembers he has no money and needs to eat at some point today. Hmmmm.....E-BAY! For those of you who know Pat, you know that this is nothing unusual. Posting everything and anything he owns on the internet for sale is as common an occurence as brushing his teeth. (Which i can vouch for; he does at least twice a day) As we combed the van we noticed this shiny, Dunlop Uni-Vibe pedal he bought for Platform Moon. It turned out to be the wrong vibe for the song so we never used it. Pat enlisted my hand-modeling skills and off to E-BAY it went.....
Once the $175 rolls in for the pedal we can get THIRTY-FIVE $5 Foot Longs!!!!! We'll be set for the next couple weeks....but, until then it's MediFast Bars and water.
Columbus' Sky Scrapers (or Sky Scraper) came into view around 7pm and we headed straight to ThunderPussy.
On the way, we passed by the "Times Square" of Columbus...
Thunderpussy is a record store next to Skully's and we always make it our first stop.
We looked for a Big Lebowski Poster for Phil at The Treehouse (last time we played there someone stole it off the wall)..... but there was none to be found. Zac stopped in Skully's for a quick Happy Hour special....we said hello to our favorite bartender there, Lindsay, and then drove to Lizzy's house for some home-cooked GOURMET style dinner. We were really surprised. Lizzy served up some mean veggies with pasta, Denver rocked some chicekn on the grill, and Raina did the best she could serving us wine. (You did great!) After an amazing round table meal we pissed off Lizzy's room mate by leaving the cushions backwards on the couch and then took off for The Treehouse.
But first....we gotta put that (Tom) Petty Cash to good use....
We always get the cheapest and most disgusting brand possible. In this case we went with an old familiar vodka called "Gordon's." (For obvious reasons this name is dear to our hearts)
The dude from the Lab Rats opened up the night with his new project called "Hotel Eden" and then we played next. It was good to see some friends that took a long drive from Cleveland and Dayton at the show. Amber was there on her night off, Kat, Channing, Lauren, Melissa and Corey showed up and so did the chefs....We had a fun show and watched "Ghost Shirt" play after us....they sounded great and i love their intensity. Sorry you had to wake up early Sam!
We left the bar and went to Raina's for the night....after awhile, Kat serenaded us to sleep while singing along to Radiohead. Thanks for the shelter ladies!!!
